Flash SEO - Search Engine Optimization

Flash SEO - Search Engine Optimization

Optimizing your site for flash can be very difficult in this article I will show you a few things you do to increase your ranking in the major search engines.

Why flash has a problem:

The problem flash has with search engines is the current search engine spiders which crawl the web to find and index new sites cannot read flash files. I don't believe flash will ever be read by search engines as it would just be to easy to abuse with ActionScript to hide text then you have layers etc which all could be used to abuse there search engine ranking and for this reason I don't think search engines will index flash sites for the foreseeable future.

What are the options for full flash sites:

HTML:
Start over with HTML this is by far the best option. HTML is what search engines love to see and I doubt flash will ever be properly indexed by search engines where as HTML always will be.

Keeping flash:
Things you can do to help without cloaking or changing your site to pure html. First off title tag your title tag should target your specific keyword or keywords try not to go for to many keywords. Title tags are very important and you should spend some time looking into the best possible title tag for your site. Remember not to make your title tag too big. The description tag is another very important tag this should contain a relative description to your page mentioning your desired keyword twice. Make sure not to over do your keyword relevancy if it looks spammy no one will click your link in the SERP'S (SEARCH ENGINE RESULT PAGES). If possible you can also include a title above your SWF file using h1 or h2 tags. This way the search engines will at least get some relevant content. In the same way some company or product information in the body tag under the flash file can also help give the SE's(SEARCH ENGINES) relevant content.

HTML sites as well as flash:
I don't like these kinds of sites and they really won't work very well. Google mainly rank on IBL's(IN-BOUND LINKS) SO you have the choice of either sending all your links to the HTML version of your site and just ranking for the html version or link to your flash file and rank for both the flash and the HTML version. However neither pages would rank as highly as if your IBL's linked to the HTML site.

I'm my own opinion I would always change the site to pure HTML flash is an amazing application and in my own opinion should be used for web based applications. I would never make full flash websites they have poor SEO as well as poor accessibility.

Ranking

The search engines will rank on the follow things:

Title, description and H tags.
Relevant content.
Links pointing to your website.
The links pointing to your sites anchor text.

These things must be done correctly to rank in the top of your industry.

Anchor text and links are currently the two biggest ranking factors on Google.

The Sandbox

The Google sandbox prevents sites from ranking in the Search Engine Results for around 6-15 months if your site was not in Google's index previous to 15 months ago and you have more relevant anchor text than your competition then your site is more than likely in the sandbox.

Ways to check your links

To check your links go to Yahoo or MSN and type linkdomain:youwebsitesname.com this will give you're a guide to how many sites are linking to your site. Another good way to check is to go to Google and type allinanchor:Keywordyourtargetinghere this will show you the sites with the most relevant anchor text for your keywords.

I hope this article helps with your flash site I will be writing more specific flash SEO articles in the future so stay tuned.

Never Buy A Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18K Digital Camera

Never Buy A Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18K Digital Camera

Why would someone deliberately buy a digital camera, when they knew it had a number of serious flaws? The answer is of course, when they don't care about the flaws, and are making an informed decision. So . . . time for a pop quiz. Name me three serious flaws with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18K Digital Camera. If you can't do it, then don't even think of buying one. If you can that's great. Maybe you'd like to hear a few more reasons why the DMC-FZ18K may not be such a great buy.

Image noise can be a problem with the Lumix DMC-FZ18K, depending on the conditions your are shooting in and how you plan to use your photos. Specifically, if you plan on taking a lot of photos in conditions where the lighting is lower than average, and you plan on blowing your photos up to anything bigger than say 12x24 you won't get the greatest results. If this is a concern for you, then perhaps moving up into the SLR camera category with larger image sensors would be a better choice.

This Panasonic Lumix comes with something the manufacturer calls Intelligent Auto Mode (IAM). It's supposed to help you take better pictures without having to mess around with multiple manual settings. Customers generally find though, that as soon as you get into anything less than perfect lighting conditions, or start using the 18X zoom IAM doesn't always make the best setting decisions. If you want really good pictures in all situations, and all zoom levels, your going to have to learn to adjust the DMC-FZ18K manual settings. Learning can be a good thing, it just depends on how you plan to use your camera.

In the spirit of "buyer beware", I would be remiss if I didn't mention the following, even if it is not an issue with the camera. If the price you find for the Lumix DMC-FZ18K seems too good to be true, then it probably is. There are a few retailers selling a imported "gray market" version of this Panasonic Lumix . Be sure you buy yours through a local retailer you trust, or one of the big online stores with a generous return policy like Amazon.

Well, that's three DMC-FZ18K issues you may or may not have been aware of. But wait, there's more . . .

- high ISO settings produce too much noise

- small size make the dial and joystick cumbersome for larger hands

- in camera processing, eliminates camera noise by blurring image detail

- no zoom function when shooting in movie mode

- slow flash recharge time

Well now at least you know what the problems are. As mentioned earlier, they may or not be problems for you. If they are, not to worry, there is a cornucopia of digital cameras on the market today. Of course they all have some flaws, just be sure to make your purchase with your eyes wide open, and you won't be disappointed.

Custom USB Flash Drives in the Shape of Your Company's Product(s)

Custom USB Flash Drives in the Shape of Your Company's Product(s)

Are printed and branded USB Memory sticks now just a little passé?

If you really want to stand out from the crowd then instead of just settling on a Promotional USB Memory Stick with your logo printed or engraved onto it why not consider a fully customised stick.

Until recently the costs of choosing a truly "custom" memory stick would have been prohibitive unless you were ordering in the thousands but not any more. Driven by the need to keep their production plants and factories busy many Memory Stick manufacturers are now happy to tool up to manufacture as few as 100 pieces. More importantly they are happy to do this and absorb the costs of the modules and tooling.

This apparent generosity on the part of the manufacturers is unlikely to last so if you are looking for a truly unique USB Memory Stick then there has never been a better time to get things moving. Remember once the module and tooling has been produced repeat orders typically bear no new "tooling" or rework costs. So you can order a 100 custom USB disks now at a bargain price knowing that if you want to come back and place a larger order its just the memory sticks you are paying for and you "own" the design.

So know is a good time to get your thinking caps on because the only restriction is your imagination. Custom USB Memory Sticks are typically manufactured from PVC rubber or resin. This process means you can define the colours and the shape and remember it's a 3-dimensional product with excellent tactile characteristics. Examples of custom USB Memory sticks include Tyres, Aeroplanes, Cars, Animals, Vegetables, Wine Bottles, Beer Bottles. Rugby balls, Cricket bats, Baseball bats, Cartoon Characters and lots more besides.

In terms of promoting your brand, brand recognition and brand recall, a fully customised memory stick has real impact and if done well creates a real talking point. They're a great idea for new product launches particularly if you pre-load the USB Memory Stick with sales brochures and support material

There's no impact of the range of memory options you can use either. A bespoke product can house any size of memory from 64Mb all they way though to a massive 32Gb. All of the same accessories i.e. key rings and lanyards can be used with your bespoke product you just need to make sure the design has the scope to attach one!

If you want to go the whole hog then customised packaging, boxes, cartons or tins can compliment the job.

Do remember the lead-time of customised memory sticks is a little longer because of the need to product prototypes and get your approvals. Just factor this into your project schedule and you'll be fine.

The team at USB2U are well versed in the art of producing Custom USB Memory sticks so if you do need any additional help or advice they're worth a call.

Encrypted USB Sticks For Data Storage

Encrypted USB Sticks For Data Storage

The USB stick is a great tool for storing data, however, all along they have brought with them some inherent security risks. Of course there is the issue of viruses but there are other security issues also that have to be taken into account when using a USB stick.

New Security Measures Have Been Developed For USB Sticks

The good news is that security solutions have been developed in the form of anti-virus features, password protection and encryption that now allows users of USB sticks to feel far more secure, with regards to the data that is contained in them.

Security Is Peace Of Mind

So now if you are using a flash drive you can do scans on outside or foreign systems even if it doesn't contain its own independent anti-virus protection in it. Thus you can be assured that will not become infected with any viruses as you perform these tasks.

A Backup Form Of Anti Virus Protection

However; as an alternate form of back-up anti-virus protection, it is advisable that the flash drive be scanned Immediately upon plugging it back into your computer just to be safe. This step will insure that any virus that by chance was not detected by a portable scanner will not have a chance to infect your entire system.

Security For Your Passwords

As far as passwords are concerned, with a USB stick it is to your benefit to have and use some type of password manager software on your flash drive. Also of course you will also want your password manager to be encrypted for security reasons.

Haste Makes Waste

Where far too many people go wrong is to simply remove their USB stick without properly going through procedure that is required to safely remove the device. The end result of saving the few seconds of time that they do, can be that the data contained in the USB stick can end up being corrupted.

What Is the Most Secure USB Stick?

If you are security minded and are interested in knowing what the most secure USB stick is, that would be those that feature (AES) or what is known in the industry as "advanced encryption standard". In short, it's the very latest in corporate grade standards thus it is sufficient to protect your data.

More Security For a Higher Cost

While these USB sticks do cost a bit more, they are growing in popularity as more people are switching to using them as a way of securing their business and personal data. However; there are a few things that you will want to take into account, should you switch to using these far more secure USB sticks.

A Few Things To Consider

For instance, you will definitely need to update your companies data security policies to account for their use in the organization. Another good idea is to install some type of data base to store and manage all of the passwords that are in use for the secure USB sticks, lest you run into a situation where one or more of the password are lost or forgotten.
